How to Cold Brew: Easy to Make, Impossible to Beat

Better Cold Brew Starts at Home — And It’s Easy.

Let’s face it—store-bought cold brew just doesn’t cut it. Once you taste your own fresh, custom-crafted batch at home, there’s no going back. Once you try homemade cold brew, you’ll never look at the bottled stuff the same way again. It’s cheaper, cleaner, more flavorful—and totally yours.

Here's why your kitchen is the best cold brew café in town:

Better Beans = Better Brew

Mass-produced cold brew? Meh. It's often made with low-grade beans, over-roasted for shelf life, and “enhanced” with stabilizers, sugar bombs, and weird additives. Homemade cold brew skips the shortcuts. You're in charge—from bean to brew. And when you start with something like our Iced Cube Cold Brew blend, made for smooth, rich flavor, you’ll taste the upgrade in every sip.

💧 Low Acidity = Happy Stomach

Cold brewing naturally produces a smoother, less acidic cup than traditional hot methods. That’s a blessing for sensitive stomachs. Bonus tip: if you love your morning hot coffee but hate the acid burn, just heat up your cold brew! You’ll get that comforting warmth without the tummy trouble.

💸 Your Wallet Will Thank You

Those grab-and-go bottles from the store? Pricey. When you brew at home, you’re paying cents on the dollar—and getting a brew that’s far superior. Plus, you can make big batches, store it in the fridge, and enjoy it all week long. Budget-friendly and barista-quality.

🌱 Fresh is Best

Bottled cold brew may sit on shelves for weeks before it makes it to your fridge. That means less flavor and more preservatives. Homemade cold brew? It’s fresh, vibrant, and made exactly the way you like it—no preservatives, no weird aftertaste, just bold, clean flavor.

🧪 Tailored to You

When you make it yourself, you’re the brewmaster. Want it bolder? Use more grounds. Prefer a mellow sip? Dial it back. Add spices, natural sweeteners, or keep it pure and simple—it’s all up to you. This is your coffee, your way.

😋 Next-Level Flavor

Pre-bottled cold brews often taste flat or bitter. But at home, you're using fresh-ground beans and full control over the coffee-to-water ratio. That means your brew is smooth, bold, and bursting with nuanced flavor. Our Iced Cube Cold Brew blend, with chocolate and toffee notes, brings the kind of richness grocery store versions just can't compete with.

🧊 How to Make Cold Brew at Home (The Easy Way)

You’ll Need:

  • A Glass or Ceramic Airtight Container: Skip the plastic and metal—they can mess with flavor. A mason jar or lidded pitcher is perfect.
  • Filtered or Spring Water: Coffee is 98% water. If your tap water isn’t great, don’t use it—bottled or filtered is worth it. The same goes for your ice!
  • Coarsely Ground Coffee: Our Iced Cube Cold Brew blend was made for this. Want a buzz-free version? Try our Decaf Peru—or create your own decaf or     half-caf mix.

The Possibility Coffee Cold Brew Way:

ONLY ICED COFFEE:

Our Favorite Recipe for a 64oz Pitcher for iced coffee:

This yields a slightly lighter brew, our ideal for direct-pour iced coffee.

  • 2 cups ice
  • 60 oz water
  • 1 cup coffee grounds
  • 12 to 24 hrs (we prefer 24)

THE CONCENTRATE

Our Favorite Recipe for Concentrate:

This is for home nitro systems or using concentrate as a cold espresso for iced lattes.

  • 2 cups ice
  • 60 oz water
  • 1 3/4 cup coffee grounds
  • 24 hrs a must

Steps:

  1. Combine coffee and water in your container. Stir to make sure all the grounds are saturated.
  2. Cover and let sit on your counter for 12 to 24 hours.
  3. Strain out the grounds—use a coffee filter, cheesecloth + strainer, or even the Toddy Cold Brew System (great for straining, not for brewing in due to plastic).
  4. Store your concentrate in the fridge for up to 10 days.

Serving Tips:

  • For black iced coffee, you can dilute to taste by adding a little water at a time til it's perfect for you.
  • For smoothies or iced lattes, use the concentrate straight-up for bold flavor.

💡 Want to Add Flavors? Here’s How to Get Creative

Forget the sugary syrups and mystery ingredients in store-bought options. Add flavor naturally right from the start:

Flavor Variations to Try:

🌿 Vanilla Cardamom:
Stir ½ Tablespoon vanilla paste and 1 tsp cardamom into the water before adding grounds. Deep, cozy vibes.

🍎 Cinnamon Apple:
Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon to the water then add the grounds. After brewing add 2 tablespoons of apple juice and shake it up.

🌶 Ginger Turmeric (Golden Brew):
Add 1 teaspoon grated turmeric and 1 teaspoon grated ginger to the water, give it a stir before adding the coffee. A fiery, healthy kick—great in smoothies or “golden” lattes.

Sweeten to taste either by adding sugar during the cold brew to dissolve and mix in or add in honey or simple syrup after to the concentrated batch.

Once you try homemade cold brew, you’ll never look at the bottled stuff the same way again. It’s cheaper, cleaner, more flavorful—and totally yours.
